Location with In-On-At

1. City, state, country, continent
   Use IN
   Their cousins used to live in Antioch, but now they live in Wisconsin.
   
   
2. Apartment, department
   Use IN
   She got a job in the accounting department recently.
   
   
3. The part or general section of a place or a country
   Use IN
   Most employees live in the eastern part of the city.
   My friend grew up in the South.
   
   
4. Specific street, avenue, road, route, etc.
   Use ON
   We're not sure if Wal-Mart is located on Grand Avenue or on Hunt Club Road.
   
   
5. The border, the coast, the shore, the side
   Use ON
   Detroit is on the Canadian border and on the shore of Lake Ontario.
   
   
6. The corner, the floor
   Use ON
   The Associate Dean's office is on the second floor.
   
   
7. Specific address (number and street)
   Use AT
   She works at 111 North Genesee Street.
   They live at 305 Lake Cook Road.
   
   
8. Specific businesses, stores, schools, parks, etc.
   Use AT
   They met last month at Belvedere Park.
   She's studying computer technology at the College of Lake County.
   Before that, she worked at Solo Cup Company and at Wal-Mart.
   
   
9. Special Case: prepositions with the word home
   Motion? Use No preposition.
   We came home late last night.
   
   Location? Use AT or No preposition
   She was at home Friday because of a backache, so she was home when the robbery occurred.
